When can I start my sponsorship of a teacher in Nepal?
The first professional development course to train Nepali teachers commenced in February 2010 and it is our aim, with ongoing sponsorship support, to continue to conduct these courses every 6 months. The feedback from the pilot course was overwhelming from both course organisers and teacher participants. Here is a selection of comments from the Nepali teachers:

What will happen then?
Once you have told us you would like to sponsor a teacher, we will send you an invoice for $150.00 and a time-line of actions re selection of your sponsored teacher and his or her training program. When selected,your sponsored teacher will email you to initiate contact.

How can a sponsor pay?
Donations can be made by either:

Important: When conducting the transaction, please ensure that you include your surname and indicate on the transaction that the donation is for 'SAT' which is just an abbreviation for Sponsor a Teacher
or
Cheque or money order:
Please make cheques payable to "Nepcam Trust Aid Fund" and mail to the Chief Financial Officer, 1 St Andrews Close, Belrose, 2085.

Very few Nepali teachers are trained or attend professional development classes. Teachers are poorly paid (average about AUD$100 per month) which is a bare living for a family.
Nepcam currently works in 43 schools in Nepal on a voluntary basis, often as teachers. Working at the grass roots level, with the help of the local communities and the principals of the schools, Nepcam can offer sponsorship to those teachers who would greatly benefit from support and training. Nepcam chooses to work with schools where many classes are taught in English. Thus their graduates speak English and have enhanced job prospects.
Maybe at some stage in the future some sponsors may like to actually visit their sponsored teacher and share some time in the classroom.
Sometimes, we teachers in Australia need reminding that we are not as poorly off as we sometimes like to think. Being able to be in touch with teachers in Nepal creates a great cultural link as well as an excellent social justice angle!!!
